The shapes and colors of fall.

Students will study the next element of art which is SHAPE.  Lines create the outline of shapes.  Each time a line outlines a shape, it is really creating two images: the positive one and a negative one.  Students will learn about the two categories of shapes: organic and geometric.  Geometric shapes go along with their work in math.  They will learn about the artist Pablo Picasso who style of Cubism is all about geometric shapes.  All classes will start with the organic shapes of fall.  Leaves and pumpkins will be some of the organic shapes they learn.

SUMMER VACATION

This is what Ms. Hemmens and Matisse did during the summer.

This pool looks deep.

Maybe I can get that dog treat from here.,

I HATE BEING IN THE WATER.

Ms. Hemmens planted a vegetable garden with tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, beans, zuchinni, acorn squash, and herbs.

Ms. Hemmens planted her flower garden and put a lot of garden art.

A monarch butterfly lands on a coneflower in my garden.

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer

There were some crazy looking birds coming out of the artroom this week.  Each student  made their own bird hat...It was an end of the year culminating project that used all the elements of Art that they learned about this year.  Those elements are line, shape, pattern, texture, color, and 3d form.
Some classes even got to listen to the songs from Rio the movie. (all of them would have had the chance had I thought of it earlier)  Can you find your bird hat in these pictures?  Double click on the picture to enlarge.

FINE ARTS FESTIVAL -MAY 14TH
The Fine Arts Festival is coming up soon.  I have tried my best to include as many students as I can to have something on display.  If your child has something in the Festival, you will receive a note in the upcoming weeks.  The note will tell you all the information you need about the Festival.

I can also use help at the end of the festival on Saturday.  At 4pm we take everything down and pack it all up in my car.  No need to let me know, just show up and I will put you to work.  If your child has something on display, you can take their work after 4pm.

SQUARE ONE ART PICTURES

Feb. 20th - Here is a sampling of the wonderful artwork the students did for the Square 1 Art Project.  I even took the pictures with our new Elmo document camera...  For more pictures go to the individual grade pages at the top of the log

Last week and this week, the students have been working on a picture for the Square 1 Art fundraiser.  Kindergarten and grade 1 drew a snowman and used these fun OVERWRITER markers to decorate the hat and scarf.  We put BLIZZARD OF 2011 to create a memory of our blizzard.

Grades 2-5 had their choice of what they wanted to draw.  They could draw something that they were interested in or draw something for their parents.

Drawings will be completed this week.  Mrs. Fazio will be sending them off to the company,  who will make that picture available on different products that you can purchase to support our school through PTA.

We would like to thank the PTA  for purchasing a variety of new markers to use to color these pictures.

You can go to the website  to learn about the program and what items you may want to purchase.
